Hi, my names Ella, I'm a 26 year old award winning Permanent make up artist and salon owner. Beginners, Advanced Artists and Beauty Businesses, come to me when they want to improve their skills, create flawless content and do more of what they love.

​

I didn’t come from money or a wealthy family. 

 

My parents split up when I was really young. I always lived with my mum and saw my dad on the weekends. My mum worked hard, but life was tough, especially raising three kids on her own in private rental housing. 

She always did her best, but we were always on a tight budget. My siblings needed more attention – my older sister was always in trouble, and my brother is 8 years younger than me – so I pretty much had to fend for myself. 

My dad was different, though. He worked hard and always had money, and he taught me one very important lesson: you don’t get it unless you can afford it. That’s something I live by to this day.

My mum showed me what I didn’t want for myself, and while that sounds harsh, it really did set a powerful example. I didn’t want to grow up broke. I wanted to get married, drive a nice car, and travel abroad. I did well at school, and after that, I went to college to study equine management. But after just six weeks, I hated it. So, I left and found a full-time job with horses. I bounced around from yard to yard, always bored unless it was a challenge.

If I wasn’t earning more or progressing, I’d move on.

Eventually, I figured out that I wanted something different. I decided I wanted to be a paramedic, so after countless interviews, I got a job in the ambulance service. I started on patient transport and worked my way up to the front line.

 

In 2021, I was still working in the ambulance service. We had just survived COVID, which was one of the toughest times ever, and I’d been dealing with a lot of mentally traumatic situations. 

My mental health was on the edge, I felt lost and I was earning around 20k a year.

I then started a new job in February assisting surgeons, but honestly, it was boring – once again, not challenging enough. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my future, but they money was good!

 

That’s when I started getting into PMU (Permanent Make Up).

I kept seeing these gorgeous results on Instagram, and I thought, “That’s what I want to do!” But there was a catch – the price.

I had no savings at the time. We had just got our house, and we were in the middle of a massive renovation. I was on a decent wage, but you know how it is – it all goes straight back out again. So I looked into loans and finance options, and my boyfriend offered to lend me half the money. I put the rest on a credit card, and before I knew it, I was booked onto a PMU course in June.

​I went all-in and completed training for Brows, Lip Blush, Eyeliner, and Microblading. The course was 8 days in Essex, and I travelled back and forth from Portsmouth every day, finding my own models.

After the course, I worked at a local salon for about six months and started building up my clientele by offering discounts and model slots. If I’m honest, I wasn’t great at first. I took on too much too soon, trying to do all four treatments. AND I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GET CLIENTS

I mostly focused on brows until I got the hang of them. I also had to spend a lot on new equipment because what I was given wasn’t up to scratch. But the good thing was, I managed to pay off my initial investment within 2-3 months and start making a profit which was amazing, it costs roughly around £30 per treatment, per client so it’s VERY high profit!

​

As I got busier, I started working evenings here and there and eventually rented my own room in another salon full-time. 

This was a huge step for me – it cost £300 a month, and I was still working my full-time job. But I had to make that money back. To try and grow my business, I added more treatments like lashes, brow laminations, waxing, and lash lifts, but looking back, I think I tried to be too good at everything, which slowed me down in building a strong PMU clientele.

Fast forward to 2024 I opened my first salon, training academy and quit my full time job!

​

This bad experience drove me to empower women and show them how to build a business the right way!
